Tiny Tracks: The Mowgli’s- San Francisco

Mowglis- http://www.themowglis.net/

While jogging, while thinking about jogging, or anytime I need a little audio accompaniment, the best of podcast listening comes in from NPR’s All Songs Considered. They’ve generally got their finger on the pulse of great music well before it hits the mainstream (can you say Macklemore?) and their tales of journeys to concerts and festivals are joyful for the music lover in all of us (and occasionally the triggers of envy for me in particular).

In the build-up to the most recent SXSW, All Songs released a slew of tracks to highlight the bands playing the festival.  So many tracks, in fact, that I’m still sorting through them a month and half later. One you shouldn’t miss is The Mowgli’s.

Upon first seeing the band name, I had a flashback to my childhood and was attempting to explain to Kristin it’s origin. You see, Mowgli was the name of the murderous (yet cute, in a reptilian sort of way) creatures in the class flick, Gremlins.

This is your cue to laugh at me, because, yes, Mowgli is indeed the kid from The Jungle Book and has nothing at all to do with Chris Columbus, terrifying Christmases or little green monsters. Also, I’m pretty sure they can feed you after midnight in the jungle.

I apologize to all mogwai and mogwai aficionados.

Now, to the tunes. Check out San Francisco:

The music video is also worth a view…seriously, it’s the most fun and cheerful video I’ve seen since Dan Mangan was helping robots find love.  Check it:
